Huawei Mate XT 2 may bring two new features that could change how users use a foldable phone. A new leak points to health monitoring support, while another report claims Huawei may add an Anti-Peeping Privacy Display feature to an external screen.

Huawei has not confirmed these features yet, but reports suggest Mate XT 2 could bring a new approach to both health tracking and screen privacy.

Huawei Mate XT 2 May Add Health Monitoring

Huawei Mate XT 2 could gain health-monitoring functions that users usually find on a smartwatch or fitness band. According to a Weibo tipster, Huawei plans to add health-related hardware and software to its next triple-foldable phone.

If Huawei adds these functions, users may monitor some health data without using a watch or fitness band.

Huawei already uses ECG, PPG, skin temperature, body temperature and X-TAP sensors across some wearable products. Mate XT 2 may bring part of this technology to a phone.

A reported ECG feature could allow users to check electrical activity from heart and track heart rhythm. ECG remains one of main health tools used in Huawei wearable products.

Mate XT 2 Could Use Camera-Based Heart Rate Tracking

Huawei may also bring camera-based heart rate tracking to Mate XT 2. Huawei already uses a similar method with Pura 90 Pro.

With this method, a user places a finger over rear camera area or flash. Camera hardware can detect changes in blood flow and use optical sensing to estimate heart rate.

Huawei combines photoplethysmography, also known as PPG, with signal processing to collect pulse data.

Huawei also adds a software element to this system. A virtual pet can appear on home screen and react to a user’s heartbeat while showing heart rate data.

According to leak information, Mate XT 2 may support a similar system. A user could place a finger over rear camera area and receive heart rate data within around 10 seconds.

If Huawei brings ECG and camera-based heart rate tracking to Mate XT 2, phone could handle some health tasks that users often perform with a smartwatch.

Huawei Mate XT 2 May Get a Cover Screen

Another report points to a major change in Mate XT 2 design.

A Weibo analyst claims Huawei may add an Anti-Peeping Privacy Display feature to Mate XT 2. More importantly, Huawei could place this feature on a cover screen.

Previous Huawei Mate XT models use a Z-shaped folding design. When folded, one part of main display remains exposed and works as screen for normal phone use. Because of this design, Huawei does not need a separate cover screen.

Mate XT 2 may change this approach.

Reports suggest Huawei could move toward a U-shaped triple-fold design. In this layout, side panels fold over middle panel. Such a design could allow Huawei to add a separate external screen.

A cover screen would make Mate XT 2 work more like a normal phone when folded.

Privacy Display Could Protect Screen Content

Huawei may pair cover screen with its Anti-Peeping Privacy Display technology.

Privacy Display can detect people viewing screen from side angles and reduce visibility of displayed content. This can help protect messages, account details, payment information and other private content when users use phone in public.

Huawei already works on both software-based and hardware-based privacy display systems.

Huawei introduced an AI-powered anti-peeping function with Pura X and later expanded support to more devices. Company also introduced a hardware-based Privacy Display solution with MateBook Pro S.

Mate XT 2 could become another Huawei product to use this technology.

U-Shaped Design Could Enable New Features

Move from Z-shaped to U-shaped folding design may have a direct impact on Mate XT 2 features.

Previous design leaves part of main panel exposed after folding, which removes need for a separate cover screen. A U-shaped structure could allow side panels to fold over middle panel and create room for an external display.

This change could also make Privacy Display more useful. Users may use external screen for messages, apps and other content while privacy technology helps limit viewing from side angles.

A cover screen could also reduce need to open full triple-fold display for simple tasks.

Mate XT 2 Could Focus on Health and Privacy

Huawei Mate XT 2 may become more than a larger foldable display. Reports now point to changes in both hardware design and user features.

Health monitoring could allow users to track heart rate and possibly ECG data from phone. Camera-based PPG technology may also provide heart rate results within around 10 seconds.

At same time, a new U-shaped fold design could bring a cover screen for first time in Huawei Mate XT series. Huawei may pair this screen with Anti-Peeping Privacy Display to protect content from side viewing.

Huawei has not confirm these details yet, so users should treat current information as leak-based. More information should appear as Mate XT 2 launch gets closer.

If reports prove correct, Mate XT 2 could offer a mix of triple-fold display technology, health monitoring and screen privacy in one device.
