Huawei will launch a new tri-fold smartphone in China on September 7, 2026. Company confirmation comes through a Weibo post and an event notice titled “HarmonyOS 7 | HUAWEI Mate XT 2 and All-Scenario New Product Launch.”
Huawei has not yet confirm all phone specifications or final retail name. Reports point to Huawei Mate XT 2 as successor to Mate XT and suggest a change in fold mechanism.
Huawei Mate XT 2 Launch Date
Huawei Mate XT 2 will launch on September 7 in China. Huawei will also use launch event to show HarmonyOS 7. Huawei may share more details about phone, software and other products during event.
Mate XT 2 will follow Huawei’s first tri-fold phone. Samsung also has a tri-fold phone in market, making Huawei and Samsung key names in tri-fold phone development.
New Folding Mechanism May Change Design
Reports claim Huawei may move from fold mechanism used on first Mate XT to a design closer to Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold.
A change in fold method can affect phone use when users open and close display. Mate XT 2 may use an inward-folding setup with a cover display and a large flexible display inside.
Reports also point to a large circular camera module placed near center panel. Huawei has not confirm this design, so these details remain based on leaks.
Another report says Huawei may reduce crease visibility on flexible display. Crease control remains an important part of foldable phone design because users look for a smooth display when phone stay open.
Kirin 9050 Pro May Power Mate XT 2
Huawei Mate XT 2 may use Kirin 9050 Pro chipset. Huawei may also offer memory and storage changes compared with first Mate XT.
Reports also claim phone may use a battery with capacity of 6,000mAh or more. A triple rear camera setup may handle photography.
Huawei has not publish official specifications, so chipset, battery and camera details need confirmation at launch.
Huawei May Show More Products
September 7 event may include more than Mate XT 2. A leak from Weibo tipster @FixedFocus claims Huawei may introduce another Pura 90 model during event.
Huawei launched three Pura 90 models this year instead of four. Company also replace Pura 90 Pro+ and Ultra options with Pura 90 Pro Max, which use a 200MP camera and Kirin 9030S chipset.
A more affordable Pura 90 model may now join lineup. Current reports do not confirm model name, price, chipset or camera setup.
Some reports suggest a new Pura 90 model may use materials from Pura 80 series and may take role of standard Pura 90 in sales.
Pura X Max May Get More Colors
Huawei may also add more color options for Pura X Max. Current model already come in five color options, but Huawei may add more choices later.
Tipster Digital Chat Station also claims Huawei may share more information about Pura X View and Kirin 9030S chipset during launch period.
Mate XT 2 vs Galaxy Z TriFold
Huawei Mate XT 2 may become a key rival to Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold. Samsung has already enter tri-fold phone market, while Huawei has experience from first Mate XT.
A change in Huawei folding mechanism may make Mate XT 2 closer to Samsung approach. Huawei may also focus on crease control, battery capacity and camera hardware.
Samsung has not confirm a Galaxy Z TriFold successor for 2026. Reports point to a possible 2027 model, but Samsung has not confirm launch plans.
